Richard Cole has a diverse work experience in the field of aviation. Richard started their career in 1983 as an Air Traffic Control Specialist in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Richard worked in various roles within FAA, including as an Air Traffic Controller in different facilities and as a Certified Instructor, where they taught FAA courses and provided academic instruction. In 2013, they joined Raytheon as a Certified Instructor II, where they continued to teach and provide instruction in FAA courses. Richard also worked as an Air Traffic Control Terminal Radar Instructor and Air Traffic Control Instructor for Air Traffic Control Services, LLC and Air Traffic Consultant Services, LLC, respectively. Richard was self-employed as an Air Traffic Control Radar/Control Tower Instructor and also worked as a musician. In 2020, they joined Robinson Aviation (RVA), Inc. as an Air Traffic Controller. Throughout their career, Richard has been recognized for their outstanding performance and ability to develop and implement successful training programs.

Richard Cole attended Southaven High School in Southaven, MS from 1972 to 1978, where they studied Music Performance, General. In addition to their high school education, they obtained certifications in Air Traffic Control. In 1980, they completed the Control Tower Operator (CTO) program at FAY, MEM, ZME, Federal Aviation Administration - FAA, and LRF Little Rock AFB Tower, USAF. In 2016, they completed the ATC Instructor - Basics program at AMA - 800, Air Traffic Control Services LLC.
