Madeleine M. Laffitte

Madeleine Laffitte brings extensive real estate legal knowledge to her practice. She was a summer associate of the firm, with a focus on several areas of real estate law and litigation, including legal research and the drafting of motions, legal memoranda, and letters to firm clients advising on changes to the law. Madeleine gained valuable practical exposure working across a number of the firm’s practice groups, including Real Estate + Development, Business Litigation, Construction Law, Environmental, Energy + Telecommunications, and Insurance + Reinsurance. She also took part in the firm’s transactional academy courses, mock trial offerings, and other enrichment activities.

As a legal intern at a Boston area law firm during law school, Madeleine conducted legal research on procedural and substantive law issues, including research on zoning bylaw judicial interpretations, Land Court jurisdiction, and zoning appeals. She also assisted in the drafting of motions and the writing of articles commenting on recent Massachusetts court opinions for the firm’s website.

Madeleine recently served as a judicial intern for the Hon. Robert Foster of the Massachusetts Land Court in Boston, assisting in legal research and writing projects on cases concerning property rights, title, and interests in real estate. including appeals of zoning decisions under the supervision of Judge Foster. She observed during Judge Foster’s hearings and attended weekly presentations held by the Justices of the Land Court, at which informative discussions on topics including zoning and subdivision control, standing, partitions, Land Court jurisdiction, and condominium law took place.

While working as an intern and researcher for the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts (REBA), Madeleine conducted an in-depth study of the Torrens system and of the Land Court Assurance Fund, supporting REBA’s legislative reform efforts in the Commonwealth. She also presented on the topic at the REBA Spring Conference.
