Scott T. Garosshen

Associate at Robinson+Cole

Scott T. Garosshen focuses his practice on appellate legal needs at both the federal and state court level. Scott handles all aspects of appellate litigation, from pre-appeal consults with trial counsel to secure appellate strategy to the briefing and oral argument at the appellate level. Scott is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Group.

Scott has argued numerous appeals before the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts and has worked on nearly one hundred such matters. His successes span multiple practice areas, including securing enforcement of a contract in a dispute over frozen embryos, preventing the double-dip doctrine from shielding certain business interests in an asset division, and prevailing on a contractual choice-of-law question that allowed a business owner to challenge an adverse arbitration award. In addition to his work involving the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts, Scott has worked on appeals made before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits.

Scott has served as the primary attorney on insurance defense and commercial litigation at the trial court level, directing all aspects of written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and settlement negotiations. Scott’s background includes drafting opinion letters on issues of insurance coverage and liability as well as advising clients on matters of ethics and professional responsibility. He has drafted and researched appellate briefs, grievance responses, and legal memoranda on constitutional, property, family, tort, contract, and legal ethics issues. In addition to addressing this range of appellate legal needs, Scott also assists clients with issues regarding civil litigation defense and professional liability defense.

Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Scott worked for six years at a prominent Connecticut appellate boutique firm. Before that, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable F. Herbert Gruendel of the Connecticut Appellate Court. He has also served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Vanessa L. Bryant of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, as well as a Legal Intern for the Honorable Alvin K. Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Scott has presented seminars on the appellate procedure, advocacy, and ethics at the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA), Virgin Islands Judicial Conference, schools and universities, and others. He is dedicated to bettering the legal profession, serving as Vice Chair of the CBA Litigation Section (2021-2023); Member of the CBA Appellate Advocacy Section, Connecticut Appellate Diversity Subcommittee (2021–2022); Co-Director of the CBA Civics Education Committee (2022–2023); and Member of the CBA Pandemic Recovery & Future Court Technology Task Force (2022–2023). He has volunteered for many years with a local nonprofit, Civics First, formerly as its Vice President and currently chairing its Debate Committee.

Scott has been named a Rising Star in the Connecticut Super Lawyers list (2020–2022) and named among Ones to Watch in Appellate Practice by Best Lawyers, (2021–2022).
