Steve Powell has extensive work experience in the emergency services sector. Steve currently serves as the Division Chief of EMS at Rockingham County, VA since June 2019. Prior to this, they worked at Rockingham County Fire & Rescue for 20 years, starting as a Firefighter/Medic from January 1999 to July 2008, and later taking on the role of Lieutenant and Training Officer from July 2008 onwards. Before joining the fire department, Steve worked as a 911 Telecommunicator for the City of Harrisonburg from May 1996 to December 1998. Steve also has experience as a Photographer at Gentry Photography from March 1993 to August 1996.

Steve Powell earned an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Fire Science/Fire-fighting from Columbia Southern University. Steve attended the university from 2011 to 2012. Before that, they attended Blue Ridge Community College from 1993 to 1995, where they pursued General Studies, but did not earn a degree.
