Sander Verhagen

Sander Verhagen has extensive work experience in the field of software development and engineering. Sander is currently the VP of Engineering at Roost, where they lead the engineering team in developing a modern deposit and compliance management platform for properties and fair financial services for renters.

Prior to this, Sander worked at Totaal Software as a Lead Developer since 1999. In this role, they developed a web application for a field service organization, utilizing technologies such as Java, Spring, Hibernate, and REST among others.

Sander also served as the Backend Engineering Manager at Skyward, A Verizon company, from 2019 to 2021. Here, they managed a team of backend engineers, scaled teams, and implemented development best practices. Sander additionally worked as a Java Consultant, advocating for the design of APIs and microservices, and promoting code-DevOps integration.

Sander's experience as a CTO at XS Spaces involved overseeing the technological aspects of developing and operating the business venture. Sander was responsible for connecting owners of space with renters for storage purposes.

At Jama Software, Sander worked as a Tech Lead from 2014 to 2018. Sander developed new features and a scalable cloud platform, utilizing various technologies including Java, Spring Boot, and JavaScript.

Previously, Sander served as a Java Consultant at Versal, where they worked on a complete redesign of a marketplace application, while at AutoAp, Inc. and Con-way, Inc. (now XPO Logistics), they worked as a Senior Software Developer and Senior Systems Engineer/Analyst, respectively.

Earlier in their career, Sander held key roles at WPS Parking Systems and SEW Deutschland CV, where they worked as a Project/Team Leader and Software Developer/Lead Software Developer, respectively. In these roles, they were responsible for the management, implementation, and architecture of various software projects.

Sander Verhagen has a diverse education history spanning multiple fields of study. Sander began their academic journey in 1990 at Bisschoppelijk College Sittard, where they pursued Higher General Secondary Education for two years. Following this, from 1992 to 1997, they attended Technisch Instituut Sint jansberg Maaseik, where they obtained a TSO degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

Subsequently, Verhagen enrolled at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, where they studied Electronics Engineering from 1997 to 2001, earning a BSc (Ing.) degree. In 2001, they briefly switched their focus to Computer/Software Engineering and Information Technology at the same institution.

In 2002, Verhagen sought further education in the field of Electronics Engineering Technology at the Oregon Institute of Technology. This engagement lasted for a year before they returned to Fontys University of Applied Sciences to complete their BSc (Ing.) in Computer/Software Engineering and Information Technology in the same year.

In 2010, Verhagen pursued further professional development by attending Stokkink Organisation and Career, Consultancy and Development. Throughout this period, they focused on developing skills in authentic leadership, change management, and inspiration, although they did not obtain a degree specifically related to this course.
