Senior Bioprocess Scientist at Roslin Technologies

Jorge H. Santoyo-Garcia, PhD has extensive experience in bioprocess development and scale-up, as well as research and teaching in the field of biotechnology. Jorge H. is currently working as a Senior Bioprocess Scientist at Roslin Technologies, where they are responsible for the development and scale-up of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from different livestock animals. In this role, they validate protocols for scaling-up iPSCs in various cultures and supports technology transfer to meat companies.

Before joining Roslin Technologies, Dr. Santoyo-Garcia worked at the University of Edinburgh as a PhD candidate and researcher in Dr. Leo Rios' research group. Jorge H. focused on designing new methodologies for the recovery and purification of high-value natural products using microbial cell factories, primarily yeast.

During their time at the University of Edinburgh, Dr. Santoyo-Garcia also served as a tutor and lab demonstrator in the School of Biology and School of Engineering. In this role, they provided guidance on the application of bioengineering and synthetic biology technologies and practices and ensured correct usage of specialized laboratory equipment.

Prior to their work in Scotland, Dr. Santoyo-Garcia held several positions in Mexico. Jorge H. served as the Director of the Biobusiness Engineering Program at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where they contributed to the training process of students and the development of the institute through teaching, research, and extension activities. Jorge H. also worked as a Professional Research Assistant at the University of Aberdeen, where they provided research support in the discovery of new natural products from extremophile microorganisms.

Additionally, Dr. Santoyo-Garcia has experience in quality assurance and R&D from their time as a Quality Assurance Engineer at Grupo Almanojo and as a Production Supervisor at Valle Redondo S.A. de C.V. Jorge H. has also worked as a Research Assistant at ITESM, where they assisted in the production of genetically modified beans to enhance their nutritional value.

Throughout their career, Dr. Santoyo-Garcia has developed expertise in bioprocess development, natural product recovery and purification, molecular analysis, quality control, and leadership.

Jorge H. Santoyo-Garcia, PhD, has a comprehensive education history in the field of bioengineering and biotechnology. Jorge H.'sacademic journey began in 2006 at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where they pursued their Engineer's degree in Biotechnology. Continuing their pursuit of knowledge, they enrolled at the University of Aberdeen in 2014, completing a Master's Degree in Biobusiness & Medical Sciences in 2015. Eager to delve deeper into their chosen field, Jorge then joined The University of Edinburgh in 2019 as a PhD Researcher in Bioengineering. With their wide-ranging educational background, Jorge is equipped with significant expertise and knowledge in the intersection of biotechnology and bioengineering.
