Lawrence Bramham

Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Rothamsted Research

Lawrence Bramham has extensive work experience in the field of plant and environmental sciences. Lawrence is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Rothamsted Research, where they focus on investigating the interactions between wheat germplasm, Barley yellow dwarf virus, and important UK aphid BYDV-vector species. This research is part of the BBSRC-funded Designing Future Wheat Institute Strategic Programme.

Prior to their current role, Lawrence served as a Postgraduate Research Student Representative on the Genetic Modification and Biosafety Committee (GMBSC) at the University of Warwick - School of Life Sciences from 2016 to 2019. In this role, they were responsible for reviewing and approving/rejecting new research projects involving genetic modification or biosafety concerns. Lawrence also addressed any potential issues within the department falling under the committee's jurisdiction. Additionally, Lawrence was the Chair of the Postgraduate Research Student-Staff Liaison Committee (PGR SSLC) at the same university from 2016 to 2017. Lawrence co-chaired meetings and facilitated the resolution of PGR student-related issues within the department. Lawrence also organized the annual UoW SLS Postgraduate Research Symposium.

Before joining the University of Warwick, Lawrence pursued a PhD in Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of Warwick from 2015 to 2019. Their research focused on developing genetic resistance to Turnip Mosaic Virus (TuMV) and Turnip Yellows Virus (TuYV) in Brassica plants. This research aimed to create broad-spectrum genetic resistance to these plant viruses affecting important species of the Brassica genus. Their PhD was funded by the BBSRC and Sakata UK through an iCASE PhD studentship. In addition to their research, Lawrence also served as a Laboratory Demonstrator, teaching various laboratory techniques to undergraduate and MSc students.

Lawrence's work experience also includes serving as a Student Ambassador at the University of Nottingham from 2012 to 2015.

Lawrence Bramham completed a Bachelor of Science - BSc (Hons) degree in Biotechnology from the University of Nottingham. Lawrence attended the university from 2012 to 2015.
