Lyn Baier

In my role, I have the pleasure of overseeing programs such as our Rutgers Internship and Co-op Course (RICC) and our First-year Interest Group Seminars (FIGS). One of the most important things students can do is to connect with meaningful opportunities that provide experiences to develop skills and career competencies.

I have been at Rutgers since 2005 and have directed the FIGS program since 2008. FIGS are one-credit seminars that introduce first-year students to academic and career paths and key university resources. Taught by experienced upper-class students, FIGS classes are purposefully small to help incoming students connect with each other and Rutgers. I appreciate the opportunity to work with a unique peer instruction model.

Prior to working with the FIGS program and Career Exploration and Success, I spent ten years working in Residence Life programs at Rutgers University, Douglass College, St. John's University, and Ball State University. Originally from Iowa, I received my Bachelor's degree in Music from the University of Northern Iowa. I completed my Master's degree in Higher Education at New York University.

Four years will go by quickly. Connect with resources and opportunities early in your time here and develop an intentional plan for your involvement inside and outside of the classroom. Do an internship, connect with research, study abroad, apply for student leadership positions. There is something for everyone at Rutgers and while there are many people here to support you on your journey, it is important to take those initial steps and connect.
