Finian is a global venture capitalist, founder and chairman of Vickers Venture Partners, with offices in Singapore, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles/San Diego, New York, London, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
As Partner/Managing Director and Head of Asia at the Silicon Valley venture capitalist firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson ePlanet Ventures, he led the investment into Baidu, a small startup at the time. He was its largest backer until the company’s record-breaking IPO in 2005 (Baidu remains the best performing IPO in Nasdaq’s history).
Finian also served in the Singapore government from 1997-2000 as Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Deputy Chairman of the National Science and Technology Board (now known as the Agency for Science, Technology and Research).
He obtained his PhD in Engineering from Cambridge University.
Finian is passionate about working with tech companies that have a positive impact on the world. Along with his wife, he started the Finian and Fiona Tan Foundation in 2018, donating their first million to the arts and endangered marine animals.
