Sarah Lappas, PhD, serves as Music Faculty at California State University, Sacramento since August 2013, teaching courses on World Music, Music of Asia, Music of Africa, and Hip Hop in Urban America. Lappas has curated the 2014 World Music Series and the Hip Hop in Urban America speaker and performance series. Additionally, Lappas has been a facilitator for the Freedom Beatz project at RYSE Youth Center since October 2018, focusing on trauma-informed hip hop programs for youth at the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility. Previous roles include ACES Culture and Activism Fellow at UC Berkeley and an Artist in Residence and Chancellor's Public Scholar at the same institution. Lappas has also taught courses on African American Music and American Music at UC Davis, where Lappas completed a PhD in Ethnomusicology. Education credentials include a Master's degree in Ethnomusicology from UC Davis and a Bachelor's degree in Musicology from the University of Colorado Boulder.
