Mas Timothy MacKey

Timothy Mackey, MAS, PhD has a diverse work experience in various academic and industry roles. Currently, they are working as a Professor at UC San Diego. In 2018, they co-founded S-3 Research, a startup focused on using big data, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology to detect and report illegal online activity. Timothy also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. From 2014, they have been the Director of the Global Health Policy and Data Institute. Additionally, they serve as the Editor In Chief at JMIR Publications and as a Faculty Affiliate at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Timothy has also worked as a Visiting Faculty at the University of California, San Diego - Rady School of Management and as a Healthcare Program Mentor at Nex Cubed. Timothy held the position of Section Editor, Global Health at BioMed Central from 2016 to 2021. Timothy was also the Director of Healthcare Research and Policy at UC San Diego Extension from 2017 to 2021. Furthermore, they are an Advisory Board Member at Unleash.

Timothy Mackey, MAS, PhD has a diverse educational background spanning various fields. Timothy obtained their BA in Political Science from UC San Diego in the years 1998-2002. Following this, they pursued a joint doctoral program in Global Health at UC San Diego School of Medicine and San Diego State University from 2010 to 2013, earning a PhD.

In addition to their doctoral studies, Timothy also attended the Geneva Graduate Institute in 2011, where they completed an Executive Course in Health Diplomacy. Timothy furthered their education by completing a Masters in Health Policy & Law from UC San Diego School of Medicine and California Western School of Law from 2007 to 2009.

Timothy also holds a Paralegal Certificate from UC San Diego, which they obtained in 2004 after completing a program in Paralegal Studies. During their time as a BA student, they had the opportunity to study at Kyoto University in Japan for the year 2000-2001, focusing on Law within the Faculty of Law.

Additionally, Timothy has obtained certifications as a Certified Legal Assistant/Certified Paralegal from NALA and as a Verified Peer Reviewer from Publons, although specific dates of attainment are not provided.
