Anita H. Clayton

Medical Advisory Board Member at S1 Biopharma

Dr. Clayton joined S1 Biopharma’s Scientific Advisory Board as Chairman in 2012. She is a past President of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, the David C. Wilson Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia and holds a secondary faculty appointment as professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology. She has chaired or served on 25 academic committees. She has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Articles and abstracts authored by Dr. Clayton have appeared in numerous journals, including Academic Psychiatry, the American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, the Journal of Sexual Medicine and others. She has edited with Dr. Susan Kornstein Women’s Mental Health: A Comprehensive Textbook. Dr. Clayton is on the editorial board for the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, the Journal of Sexual Medicine and Women’s Health. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. She developed and validated the Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire to measure sexual desire and function, which has been linguistically validated in more than 70 languages and utilized in over 90 clinical studies. Her book on women’s sexuality for the general public, Satisfaction: Women, Sex, and the Quest for Intimacy was published by Ballantine Books/Random House in 2007. Her current research includes mood and anxiety disorders associated with reproductive-life events in women, sexual dysfunction related to illness and medications, and treatment of sexual disorders. Dr. Clayton obtained her M.D. at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed her residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Virginia.
