Director, Litigation at Safety Insurance

Maureen Harrity has over 20 years of work experience in the insurance industry. Maureen is currently the Director of Litigation at Safety Insurance, a position they have held since April 2020. Prior to their current role, they worked at Safety Insurance as a Senior Casualty Claims Manager from April 2015 to April 2020. In this role, they supervised a team of adjusters and handled complex liability, damages, and coverage issues across multiple lines of business. Maureen also participated in the development and presentation of in-house training seminars with the Litigation Director.

Before their role as Senior Casualty Claims Manager, Harrity served as a Litigation Analyst at Safety Insurance from March 2008 to April 2015. As a member of a specialized unit, they focused on high-exposure and coverage issue cases, managing litigated cases with defense counsel and bringing them to trial, arbitration, or mediation. Maureen also successfully mediated cases without the assistance of counsel.

Harrity started their career at Safety Insurance as a Casualty Claims Examiner in June 2000 and held the position until March 2008. In this role, they were the primary handler of litigated personal auto claims and handled all SIU litigation for the entire casualty department.

Prior to their work at Safety Insurance, Harrity worked at Liberty Mutual as a Claims Specialist from May 1998 to June 2000. In this role, they handled personal auto and homeowners casualty claims, including claims with unrepresented claimants.

Before their time at Liberty Mutual, Harrity worked at Murphy Insurance Agency as a Client Service Agent from June 1996 to May 1998.

Throughout their career, Harrity has developed expertise in various areas of insurance, including litigation, claims management, coverage issues, and customer service.

Maureen Harrity received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross, where they studied from 1992 to 1996. In addition to their degree, they hold certifications as a Licensed Property and Casualty Adjuster from the State of Connecticut, State of Rhode Island, and State of New Hampshire.
