Senior Director, Health Economics And Outcomes Research at Sage Therapeutics

Melanie Young, PHARM.D., BCPS has extensive experience in the field of health economics and outcomes research. Melanie'smost recent position is as the Senior Director of the Field Team - Health Economics and Outcomes Research at Sage Therapeutics, where they started in April 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Takeda Oncology as the Lead for US Health Economics and Outcomes Research from August 2020 to April 2022. In this role, they focused on generating real-world evidence and outcomes-based research, shaping the company's HEOR strategy, and leading a team.

From 2018 to 2020, Melanie worked at Sage Therapeutics as the Director of Health Economics & Outcomes Research. Here, they were the first field person hired for the HEOR team and played a role in talent acquisition, commercial partner onboarding, and training efforts. Melanie also identified opportunities to advance healthcare through research initiatives.

Before joining Sage Therapeutics, Melanie held various positions in the field of health economics and outcomes research. Melanie worked as a Health Economics & Outcomes Research Medical Science Liaison at OPKO Health, Inc. from 2016 to 2018, where they supported medical education, clinical development, research, and health economics and outcomes research for both marketed and pipeline products.

From 2015 to 2016, Melanie served as the Director of Managed Care Health Outcomes, Medical Affairs at RELYPSA, INC., conducting value-based pharmacoeconomic and health outcomes research in collaboration with decision-makers.

Prior to that, they worked at SUNOVION PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. in two roles. First, as the Corporate Account Director, Integrated Health Systems, Managed Markets in 2014, where they provided oversight and strategic direction to a customer account team. Second, as the Regional Account Director, Managed Markets from 2011 to 2014, where they provided leadership to an account team and secured access and coverage policies with key health plans in Michigan.

Melanie's career also includes roles at NORTH AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICALS, a Johnson & Johnson company, as a Senior Scientific Affairs Liaison, Managed Markets from 2009 to 2011, and at Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy, LLC as a Pharmacist from 2006 to 2009. Prior to that, they worked at OPTIMA HEALTH PLAN as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in 2008.

Throughout their career, they have demonstrated a strong focus on research, strategy development, and building relationships with key stakeholders in the healthcare industry.

Melanie Young, PHARM.D., BCPS, completed their Doctor of Pharmacy (PHARM.D.) degree at Ferris State University from 2002 to 2006. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology from Aquinas College. In addition to their formal education, Melanie also holds the certification of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). Melanie is also registered as a Pharmacist in the State of Michigan.
