Nicholas Fernandez has over seven years of professional experience. Nicholas began their career in 2014 as a Research Laboratory Technician at MSU Plant Biology, where they researched bioenergy relevant cell-wall processes such as lignin pathway bioengineering and transcriptional regulation cell wall polymers. In 2017, they joined MSU IT Services as an Information Technology Student, where they supported IPF IT Infrastructure by deploying and troubleshooting various server and client applications critical for day-to-day operations and provided technical support to users in the organization. In 2018, they worked as a Process Engineering Intern at LanzaTech, where they supported the start-up of the world's first commercial gas to ethanol fermentation plant by troubleshooting data from the site, leading to more reliable continuous operation. Nicholas also developed a techno-economic model for steel production gas fermentation platforms to demonstrate that fermentation is competitive with alternatives and wrote analytical laboratory reports and developed workflow for future reports. In 2019, they joined ERM: Environmental Resources Management as a Consultant. Currently, they are working as an Associate Data Engineer at SalesPage Technologies and a Validation Engineer at Performance Validation.
Nicholas Fernandez attended Michigan State University from 2009 to 2013, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Nicholas then returned to Michigan State University from 2016 to 2019, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Chemical Engineering.
