Mike Sheehan

Vice President & Associate General Counsel at Sallie Mae

Mike Sheehan has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Mike started their career at Venable LLP as a Labor & Employment Associate and Corporate & Securities Associate from 1987 to 1992. Mike then joined Sallie Mae, where they held various legal positions, including Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, and General Counsel from 1992 to 2008. During their time at Sallie Mae, Mike was involved in a significant project as a Project Manager for the company's spin-off transaction in 2014. Mike also served as the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, providing legal support for Sallie Mae's capital markets group. Additionally, Mike has experience in the franchise industry, having worked as a President at Focus Ventures, LLC, and as a Principal at Franalytix, LLC. Mike has also been involved in philanthropic work as a Board Member and Treasurer at the Loudoun Literacy Council. From 2009 to 2012, Mike worked as an independent Consultant and Attorney, offering business and legal consulting services with a focus on new laws and regulations.

Mike Sheehan received their Bachelor's degree in Economics, with distinction in all subjects, from Cornell University in 1980. From 1984 to 1987, they attended the University of North Carolina School of Law, where they earned a Doctor of Law degree (JD) with honors.
