Joao Calmon

Joao Calmon is an experienced mining professional with a diverse background in management and engineering roles across various mining operations. Currently serving as General Manager at Samarco since March 2022, Joao oversees the Germano Operational Unit, which includes iron ore mines, concentrators, and pipeline maintenance. Previously held positions include General Manager for the Almas Mine Project at Aura Minerals Inc. and General Manager for the CDS Business Unit at AngloGold Ashanti, where responsibilities encompassed health, safety, environment, and community (HSEC) management, as well as operations of underground and open-cut gold mines. Joao's extensive experience also includes senior engineering roles at Glencore PLC and earlier positions at AngloGold Ashanti and Votorantim Metais. Joao holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Mineral Resources, Risk Management - Mining from The University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.
