Anna Hawkins (Redman) has a diverse work experience in the field of communications and journalism. Anna began their career in 2011 as a reporter for Veritas, where they conducted interviews, provided event coverage, and assisted with sub-editing and layout design. In 2011, they also worked as a reporter for The Edinburgh Reporter, where they covered local events, conducted interviews, and utilized multimedia skills for their written work. From 2009 to 2012, they worked as a reporter for The Oscar, covering local events and writing specialty pieces on Scotland's history and heritage. In 2012, they joined Chatelaine - Rogers Publishing as a Copy and Research Intern, contributing to print and online articles, book reviews, and health briefs. Anna also assisted with production meetings and pitch meetings. From 2013 to 2014, they held the role of Editorial Assistant at Rogers Publishing - Chatelaine magazine, providing support to staff, responding to reader queries, and writing monthly health briefs and book reviews. In 2014, they worked as an Assistant Editor at Inside Fitness Magazine, where they wrote regular departments, pitched and wrote features, and contributed to the magazine's website. In 2015, they became the Health Editor for Inside Fitness Magazine, taking on additional responsibilities such as designated handling editor for various stories, content posting and editing, and proofreading during production. From 2015 to 2016, they worked as a Staff Writer at Rogers Communications' Hello! Canada, and from 2017 to 2019, they served as a Communications Analyst, Senior Communications Analyst, and Communications Manager at Restaurant Brands International. In 2019, they joined Samuel, Son & Co. as a Communications Manager. Most recently, in 2021, they began working as a Freelance Writer at Hello! Canada magazine for SJC.
Anna Hawkins (Redman) has a diverse education history. Anna pursued a Masters (MA) degree in Journalism from Edinburgh Napier University from 2011 to 2012. During this time, they also obtained a certification in Shorthand 100 WPM from the National Council for the Training of Journalists in June 2012.
In 2015, Anna participated in several webinars organized by Magazines Canada. These webinars covered topics such as designing reader surveys, making the most of advertising on digital editions, and digital design best practices. While the webinars granted their knowledge in these areas, they did not lead to any degree or certification.
Anna also attended the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors in 2016, where they received media training specifically tailored for magazine editors. Although they received training, they did not obtain a degree from this institution.
Prior to their Masters program, Anna earned a Bachelor of Arts High Honours degree in Communications from Carleton University. Anna completed this program from 2007 to 2011.
In addition to their formal education, Anna has obtained additional certifications throughout their career. In March 2021, they completed a course called "Disney's Approach to Employee Engagement" offered by the Disney Institute. Anna also earned an edX Verified Certificate for "Agile Leadership Principles and Practices" from edX in January 2021. These certifications supplemented their knowledge and skills in areas beyond journalism and communication.
