Susan Cleveland-Knowles has extensive work experience in various legal and leadership roles. Susan started their career as a Legal Fellow at Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger LLP, specializing in environmental and land use law. Susan then served as the Interim Director at the Environmental Partnership for Central Europe. In 1999, they joined the San Francisco City Attorney's Office as a Deputy City Attorney, where they currently serve as the Chief Counsel to SFMTA and Team Leader of the Transportation Team. Susan manages a team of 6 attorneys representing the SFMTA. In 2017, they were elected as a City Council Member for the City of Sausalito and served as Mayor in 2020.

Susan Cleveland-Knowles received their Bachelor's Degree from Georgetown University in the School of Foreign Service. Susan attended Georgetown from 1986 to 1990. Later, they pursued their Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Stanford Law School, where they studied from 1994 to 1997.
