Barbara Pollak-Lewis

Barbara Pollak-Lewis is an accomplished educator and fine artist with extensive experience in teaching and curriculum development across various educational institutions. Currently serving as a Continuing Education Instructor at Rhode Island School of Design and California College of the Arts, Barbara specializes in entry-level drawing and portfolio development for teens. In addition, Barbara teaches Photoshop to adults at Harvey Milk Photography Center and leads multiple art classes for children and teens at San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department. As an Art Curator at Arc Studios & Gallery, Barbara has successfully managed fine art exhibitions and has maintained an active presence in the San Francisco art scene. With a Master of Arts in Art Education from Boston University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design, Barbara holds a diverse skill set in illustration, animation, and fine art, complemented by a background in co-founding an innovative product company focused on digital platforms.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department’s Mission is to provide enriching recreational activities, maintain beautiful parks and preserve the environment for the well-being of everyone in our diverse community. The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department administers more than 220 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces, including two outside the city limits-- Camp Mather in Yosemite Valley and Sharp Park in Pacifica, Calif. Our park system includes 25 recreation centers, nine swimming pools, five golf courses and numerous tennis courts, ball diamonds, soccer fields and other sports venues. Included in the department’s responsibilities are the Marina Yacht Harbor, the San Francisco Zoo, and Lake Merced. Our staff members are diverse, committed and talented recreation and park professionals, from gardeners, foresters, and recreation leaders to park patrol officers, custodians, electricians, painters, and more.
