Van Hedwall has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Van is currently the Director of Programs at San Francisco Suicide Prevention, where they oversee eight programs and manages the organization's operations, development, and budgeting.

Prior to this, Van Hedwall worked as a Program Coordinator for Adolescent and Senior IOP at Sutter Health. In this role, they supervised a high-risk population of suicidal and self-harming adolescents and seniors in an intensive outpatient hospital setting. Following that, between 1997 and 1999, Van Hedwall LMFT pursued a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from New College of California.
