Mallar Bhattacharya

Mallar Bhattacharya, M.D. is a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at UCSF, where he divides his time among intensive care medicine, directing his research laboratory, and supporting medical student research programs. He also performs and teaches the music of the sarod, an instrument of the Indian classical tradition, and serves on the board of the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael. Mallar was born in Oxford, England, and, after a few early years in San Francisco, grew up mostly in New York City, where he attended Collegiate School. After undergraduate and master’s degrees in neuroscience at Harvard and Oxford, he completed his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He then returned to San Francisco for specialization in pulmonary and critical-care medicine and postdoctoral research training related to lung injury and fibrosis at UCSF.
