Tyson Nichols is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in teaching and curriculum development. Currently serving as the Journalism and Yearbook Advisor at San Leandro Unified School District since August 2016, Tyson empowers students to express themselves through engaging journalism while fostering critical thinking and workplace skills. Prior to this role, Tyson taught English Language Arts and developed innovative curricula for diverse student populations at San Leandro High School. Tyson's experience also includes significant positions at Oakland Unified School District, where coordination of a Green Energy California Partnership Academy and the design of interdisciplinary lessons highlighted a commitment to student engagement and real-world relevance. Additionally, Tyson has contributed to curriculum development at CTE Online and has taught ESL with Kaplan Test Prep, along with serving as a long-term substitute teacher in Boston. Tyson holds an AB in English, Creative Writing from the University of California, Davis and a California Teaching Credential from CSU East Bay.
