John Maidens

John Maidens is a Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Medical Devices at SandboxAQ since April 2025, focusing on machine learning models for a quantum magnetocardiography device to assess patients with suspected heart attacks. Prior to this role, John served as Machine Learning Lead at Eight Sleep from May 2023 to April 2025, developing systems to enhance sleep fitness and health. John's experience also includes a position as a Machine Learning Engineer at Apple, where contributions were made to health sensing hardware, and as the first Data Scientist at Eko, where foundational machine learning solutions for heart sounds and ECG analysis were created, leading to the successful launch of two 510(k) cleared medical device products. John holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from The University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Alberta.
