Kenneth DeSimone

Chief of Police at Sandy Springs Police

Kenneth DeSimone has more than 35 years of law enforcement experience and currently serves as the Chief of Police for the Sandy Springs Police Department. Prior to this role, they worked for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in various assignments such as uniform patrol, investigations, training, and organized crime. DeSimone also has an extensive military background, having served as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, specializing in Military Police and Armor. Kenneth has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and retired from the Marines in 2014.

Kenneth DeSimone completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Police Administration from the University of Louisville, which they attended from 1982 to 1986. In 2009, they also attended the FBI National Academy, specifically Class 239, though the field of study for this program is not specified.

Sandy Springs Police

The Sandy Springs Police Department (SSPD) was created in 2006 and serves the community with 148 sworn officers. Sandy Springs Police Department Operations are coordinated by two districts: North and South. The districts are commanded by the patrol Captain who is supported by Lieutenants. The patrol division is complemented by specialty units including Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Traffic Unit, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The SSPD has several specialty vehicles and equipment including the river response boat, Rhino ATV units, river kayaks, and an armored vehicle for tactical response.
