Ayla Smith

Ayla Smith is an experienced Alternative Media Specialist at Santa Cruz County Office of Education since February 2012, specializing in braille transcription and technology for individuals who are visually impaired. With a strong foundation in special education, Ayla has held various roles including Senior Aide in the Transitioning to Alternative Media Specialist within the Visual Impairment Department, and previously as a Paraeducator supporting children with special needs in the Early Start Program. Early career experience includes serving as a Senior Aide at Lighthouse, assisting students with emotional disturbances, and working as a Classroom Aide focusing on students with autism. Ayla's education includes a certification in UEB Braille from the Hadley Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired and attendance at Monterey Peninsula College and Cabrillo College.
