Santa Fe Public Schools
Sonya Gunter has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Sonya started their career in 2003 as a Teacher at Santa Fe Public Schools and then moved to Clark County School District in 2005. Sonya returned to Santa Fe Public Schools in 2007 and continued as a Teacher until 2014. From 2013 to 2014, they also worked as an Instructional Coach. In 2014, they were promoted to Assistant Principal and held that position until 2019 when they became the AVID District Director and Career Technical Education Coordinator. In January 2021, they took on the role of Chief Data and Analytics Officer for Santa Fe Public Schools.
Sonya Gunter completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in German, Spanish, and Media Arts from The University of New Mexico between 1997 and 2002. Sonya then pursued a Master's degree in Secondary Education from the same university, graduating in 2005. In 2013, Sonya Gunter began pursuing their Ed.S. degree in Educational, Instructional, and Curriculum Supervision from Arkansas State University, which is still ongoing.
