Jim Cory

Principal Product Engineer at Sarcos Robotics

Jim Cory has extensive work experience in the field of engineering, with a focus on product development and project management. Jim started their career at The University of Huddersfield as a Research Assistant, where they were responsible for designing and constructing multi-phase flow measurement equipment. Jim then worked as a Mechanical Engineer at SONDEX UK Ltd, where they collaborated with engineers to develop a pilot scale Production Logging Resistivity tool. Jim also worked as a Consultant at Andrew Hunt Consultants Ltd, where they conducted feasibility studies on new multiphase flow measurement technologies.

In 2000, Jim joined the California Institute of Technology as a Postdoctoral Scholar, where they developed a coaxial shear cell for categorizing granular fluids in a zero gravity environment. Jim qualified the apparatus for NASA's low gravity aircraft and carried out experiments both in the laboratory and during flight weeks.

In 2006, Jim joined Schlumberger, where they held various roles including Mechanical Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead, and Senior Mechanical Team Lead. Jim worked on multiple tool development projects for measurements while drilling and wireline applications. Jim also played a key role in developing new antenna technologies for well placement resistivity tools.

Since 2017, Jim has been working at Sarcos Technology and Robotics Corporation. Jim started as a Program Manager for the Guardian-S robot, responsible for overseeing the project from concept to commercialization. Jim then became the Director of Applications Engineering, where they evaluated potential use cases and developed a roadmap for the Guardian XO. Currently, Jim serves as the Principal Product Engineer, working on multiple product development projects in the aviation portfolio.

Overall, Jim Cory has a diverse range of experience in engineering, product development, and project management, with a particular focus on the robotics and oil and gas industries.

Jim Cory completed their Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol from 1990 to 1993. Jim then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Huddersfield, which they completed from 1995 to 1999.
