Barry Hicks

Barry Hicks is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in data ethics and software development, currently serving as the Development Lead in the Data Ethics Practice at SAS since May 1988. In this role, Barry leads global development initiatives aimed at implementing human-centered best practices that ensure responsible and equitable use of SAS technologies, particularly focusing on the protection of vulnerable populations. Barry also has a background in financial services as a Software Developer, addressing challenges related to fraud for financial institutions. Additionally, since October 2001, Barry has been the Owner of New Freedom Ventures, LLC, providing angel funding for start-up businesses. Barry began his career at Southwestern Publishing House as a Student Manager/Sales Representative, where responsibilities included recruiting and training college students for sales endeavors. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University and certificates in Data Science Ethics from the University of Michigan and Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University.
