Shahnawaz Ahmed

Shahnawaz Ahmed has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Shahnawaz started their career as a Summer Intern at the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, where they worked on checking normal and nonnormal Boolean functions. After that, they joined Alfaisal University as a Lecturer in Mathematics, teaching undergraduate courses and conducting research on computer vision. During their tenure, they received two internal grants and also served on various academic and administrative committees.

In 2014, Shahnawaz joined Queen Mary University of London as a Computer Vision Researcher, where they focused on geometric modeling of 3D point-cloud data. Their main objective was to create a physically valid dense calibrated 3D digital elevation model (DEM) from 3D data obtained from consumer depth-cameras and multiple-view reconstructions.

Currently, Shahnawaz is the Co-Founder and CTO of Scalpel Ltd., a company that develops AI-assisted software robots for the healthcare industry. Their technology utilizes deep learning and sensor fusion techniques to improve surgical productivity and reduce preventable surgical errors. By integrating data from healthcare records and operating room sensors, they provide real-time information on patient safety and theater utilization.

Shahnawaz Ahmed pursued their education in a chronological manner. Starting in the year 2003, they completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mathematics (Honours) from the University of Calcutta, India. Shahnawaz then enrolled at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras from 2006 to 2008, where they attained a Master's degree in Mathematics. Lastly, from 2014 to 2018, they attended Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science.
