Sutapa Amornvivat is Founding CEO of SCB Abacus. Sutapa is a mathematician and economist by training and a true believer in democratizing opportunities through power of technology.

Sutapa started her career in management consulting with Booz Allen Hamilton. After her doctorate studies, she joined Economist Program at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC and led Macroeconomic Analysis Division at Thailand’s Fiscal Policy Office. Sutapa’s banking experience ranges from establishing a risk analytics team both at TMB Bank (seconded from ING) and later at Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), to building strategy advisory service as SCB Chief Economist, as well as chairing Risk Management Committee of SCB Asset Management—Thailand’s largest AMC.

Through these various roles, Sutapa’s continuing work on financial inclusion from international macroeconomic perspective, microfinance in South and Southeast Asia, domestic banking ecosystems, to AI-powered risk analytical techniques leads to strong conviction that creates SCB Abacus.

Sutapa holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) She was a recipient of Thailand's most prestigious King's Scholarship, and a representative of Thailand in the 23rd International Chemistry Olympiad. Sutapa was appointed as Global Council member by the US-based Asia Society; and sits on several regulatory and academic boards of directors in Thailand.
