Ken McDermith

Chief Technology Officer at Schenectady City School District

Ken McDermith has extensive work experience in the field of technology in the education sector. Ken started their career as a Technology Teacher at Mohonasen High School in 1989 and worked there until 2005. During their time at Mohonasen High School, they also served as an Academic Administrator for Careers and Technical Education.

In 1997, Ken McDermith joined Project Lead The Way (PLTW) where they served as a Master Teacher and Curriculum Writer for several years. Ken was involved in various aspects of PLTW, including co-authoring curriculum and serving on the Strategic Planning committee.

Ken McDermith then transitioned to Shenendehowa Central Schools in 2005, where they took on the role of Director of Technology. Ken held this position until 2021, overseeing technology initiatives and implementation within the school district.

In 2021, Ken McDermith joined Capital Region BOCES as a Special Projects Administrator. Ken worked in this role until 2023.

Currently, Ken McDermith is serving as the Chief Technology Officer for the Schenectady City School District starting in 2022.

Ken McDermith completed their high school education at Fryeburg Academy from 1980 to 1984. Ken then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Technology Education from the State University of New York at Oswego, graduating in 1989. Ken furthered their education with a Master of Science (MS) degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from The College of Saint Rose, which they completed from 1994 to 1996.

In addition to their formal degrees, Ken obtained certifications in K-12 Technology Education from the New York State Education Department in September 1990. Ken also acquired a certification in School District Administration from the New York State, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certification are unknown.
