Jyotika Virmani

Jyotika Virmani, PhD, FRMetS, serves as the Executive Director of the Schmidt Ocean Institute since February 2020, focusing on the integration of advanced science and technology to enhance ocean research and dissemination of knowledge. Previously, Jyotika was a Producer for the science fiction short film 'Hashtag' at Runic Films and held various leadership roles at XPRIZE, including Executive Director for Planet & Environment and Senior Director overseeing the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE. With a strong background in oceanography and atmospheric science, Jyotika also contributed to the Florida Institute of Oceanography and the Florida Coastal Ocean Observing System, among other positions. Educational credentials include a PhD in Marine Science from the University of South Florida and advanced degrees in Atmospheric Science and Physics.
