Mark Greaves

Mark Greaves is an accomplished leader in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced computing, currently serving as the Executive Director of the AI and Advanced Computing Institute at Schmidt Sciences since February 2024. Greaves has a rich professional background, having previously held the position of Executive Director for the AI2050 Initiative at Schmidt Futures, where a significant $125 million commitment was made to support transformative AI research. Prior to that, Greaves was a Strategic Advisor at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, influencing AI strategies with government partners, and also served as Technical Director in the National Security Directorate. Greaves co-founded the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence as Vice President and directed global R&D initiatives at Vulcan. Earlier experience includes managing national-scale programs at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and advancing research at Boeing. Mark Greaves holds a PhD in Philosophy from Stanford University, an MS in Computer Science from UCLA, and a BA in Cognitive Science from Amherst College.
