Dave Sands has a diverse work experience spanning over several roles and industries. Dave started their career as a Snowboard Instructor at Whistler Blackcomb in 1990. Dave then worked as a Teacher in Langley School District #35 for grades 8-12 students from 1991 to 1995, where they also coached Basketball, Football, and Rugby. Dave joined School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) in 1995 and held various roles including Team Leader/Teacher until 2000. Dave then moved to Simon Fraser University as a Faculty Associate, where they conducted workshops and provided supervision to student teachers until 2002. Dave returned to School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) and served as Vice-Principal at Citadel Middle School from 2002 to 2004, and later became the Principal of Central Elementary from 2004 to 2007. Dave then took on leadership roles as Principal of Castle Park Elementary School from 2007 to 2011, specializing in energy conservation and sustainability initiatives. Dave's expertise in implementing technology in education led him to become the Principal of MyEdBC Implementation from 2014 to 2015, and later the Principal of Technology Implementation for the entire district from 2015 onwards. Dave also took on a role as MyEdBC Service Management Chair at MyEdBC in 2018. Additionally, Dave has experience as a Public Speaker, delivering presentations on cyber-bullying, internet safety, and parenting in the digital age.
Dave Sands has a Master's degree in Educational/Instructional Technology from Simon Fraser University, which they completed from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Queen's University in 1989-1990. Dave also holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from McMaster University, awarded from 1985 to 1989. Additionally, Dave has obtained certifications such as Snowboard instructor Evaluator from the Canadian Snowboard Instructors Association in 1992, BCTF Teacher Certification from the BC Teachers Federation in 1990, and NCCP Theory and Technical training from the National Coaching Certification Program in 1988.
