Matt Thompson is a seasoned scientific programmer and analyst with extensive experience in climate modeling and computational chemistry. Currently serving as the Lead Scientific Programmer/Analyst at Science Systems and Applications, Inc. since January 2012, Matt has significantly enhanced the GEOS global climate model for use with NVIDIA GPUs, achieving remarkable speedups in critical physics routines. Previously, as a Senior Scientific Software Engineer at SAIC, Matt worked on the same project, showcasing consistent expertise. Matt's earlier roles include a National Research Council Postdoctoral Scholar at the Naval Research Laboratory, where innovative applications of genetic algorithms were made to optimize density functional theory, and a Research Assistant at JILA, where contributions to molecular dynamics and electronic structure calculations were pivotal. Matt's foundational education includes a Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder and a BA in Chemistry from Colorado College.
