Andrea Gawrylewski has extensive work experience in the field of science and publishing. Andrea started their career as an Editorial Intern at The Scientist in 2007, where they later became a Staff Writer and then an Associate Editor. In these roles, they edited the Literature/Research section of the magazine and wrote various articles. In 2009, Andrea joined Macmillan as a Senior Development & Media Editor, where they worked on science textbooks and media projects in collaboration with Scientific American. Since 2015, they have been employed at Scientific American, initially as a Senior Editor, Special Projects, before becoming the Chief Newsletter Editor in 2022. In their current role, they manage curated content and special projects at the magazine and is responsible for editing news, op-eds, and photo features for the website.

Andrea Gawrylewski completed their Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature, General, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from the University of Maryland between the years 1999 and 2003. Andrea then pursued further education at Columbia University, where they earned a Master's degree in Earth and Environmental Science from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 2005. In 2006, Andrea completed their education at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, obtaining a Master's degree in Journalism.
