Jason Castro

Jason Castro is an Associate Professor and Chair of Neuroscience at Bates College, overseeing an academic unit comprising five faculty members and approximately 60 students since August 2020. With a rich background in neuroscience, Castro conducts NSF-funded research focusing on the molecular, morphological, and electrophysiological characteristics of cells in the mouse brain. Additionally, Castro has contributed as a freelance writer for Scientific American since November 2010, specializing in topics related to neuroscience and psychology. Previous positions include Assistant Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Bates College and Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh. Castro holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh and various certifications, including a Micromaster Certificate in Statistics and Data Science from MITx. Educational credentials also include a BS & BA in Neuroscience and English Literature from the University of Rochester.
