Joanne Sheppard has over 20 years of experience in the publishing industry. Joanne began their career in 1999 as a Senior Editor at Kluwer Academic Publishers. In 2002, they joined Elsevier as a Senior Editor for Focal Press, where they launched and managed a list in broadcast engineering and online content distribution. Joanne then became Publishing Director for Focal Press and Morgan Kauffman in 2006, where they managed a complex print and online portfolio. In 2011, they became Vice President and Editorial Director for Elsevier, where they managed a global book editorial team of over 100 editors and 800 titles in print and online. In 2017, they joined Holtzbrinck Publishing Group as SVP Strategy and Investments, where they collaborated closely with several CEOs on company-wide strategy globally. In 2019, they became a Non Executive Director for BioData Ltd. and in 2020 they became a Strategy Executive Member for The Outthinker Strategy Network and a Non Executive Director for Scismic.
Joanne Sheppard began their educational journey in 1992 when they obtained a BA in Individualized Study from New York University. Joanne then went on to receive an MA in English from Boston University in 1997. In 2003-2005, they attended Johnson & Wales University for Culinary Arts. Finally, in 2013-2014, they received a Certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT Sloan School of Management.
