Currently serving as Chief Data Officer for Global Retail at Scotiabank since May 2018, Mercedes oversees data governance strategies across both International Banking and Canadian Banking Retail. Previously, Mercedes held the role of Chief Data Officer for International Banking at Scotiabank, where responsibilities included ensuring compliance with industry-leading data management practices. Before joining Scotiabank, Mercedes served in various senior leadership roles at CIBC, managing large transformational data initiatives and operational projects. Early career experience includes technical management at EDS Canada and project management at TD and Webland. Mercedes holds a Masters Certificate in Financial Services Leadership from the Schulich School of Business and various financial certifications from the Canadian Securities Institute, along with an Honours BSc from the University of Toronto.
