Lee-anne McAulay has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Lee-anne began their career as a Teacher of English at Falkirk Council in 2007. Lee-anne later joined Craigclowan School in 2012 as a SENCO. In 2014, they became the Head of Education at Harmeny Education Trust Ltd. After that, they worked as the headteacher at Broadmead Primary Academy from 2016 to 2017. Lee-anne then joined Fife Council as a Headteacher in 2017. Currently, they hold the role of Head Teacher at Scottish Autism since November 2020.

Lee-anne McAulay completed their education in a chronological order. Lee-anne first attended the University of Stirling from 2003 to 2006, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English with Professional Education. Following this, from 2009 to 2011, they pursued a PG Certificate in Inclusive Education at the University of the West of Scotland. Most recently, from 2018 to 2023, they enrolled at Education Scotland to earn an Excellence in Headship degree, specializing in School Leadership.
