Gary Stewart has a diverse work experience in the field of internal audit. Gary has held various roles and positions in different organizations, including the Scottish Enterprise, GDST, Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA), Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors, Low Carbon Contracts Company, Mazars UK, Competition and Markets Authority, Crown Commercial Service, and the Department for Education.

Gary'sroles have included Director of Audit, Board Trustee/Finance Audit and Risk Committee Chair, Group Chief Internal Auditor, Council Director/Audit and Risk Committee Chair, Head of Assurance & Risk, Senior Manager Internal Audit, Head of Internal Audit, and Audit Manager.

Throughout their career, Gary has been responsible for managing and delivering internal audit programs, providing assurance on activity, engaging with senior stakeholders, planning and managing audit plans, overseeing partner organizations, ensuring compliance with audit methodologies and professional practices, and introducing new audit software for improved monitoring and oversight.

Gary Stewart attended the University of Strathclyde from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons) degree in History. In addition, they have acquired various certifications, including the International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management from the Institute of Risk Management in 2022 and the Certified Internal Auditor certification from The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. in 2015. Other certifications include the Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership (QIAL), IT Auditing Certificate, CMIIA, PRINCE2, and PIIA, obtained between 2010 and 2015.
