Janine Hensman

Head Of Modelling & Evidence (hydrology & Flooding) at Scottish Environment Protection Agency

Janine Hensman has a diverse work experience in various environmental agencies and organizations. Janine started their career as a Placement Student at the Environment Agency in 1999. Janine then worked as a Researcher at The James Hutton Institute in 2000 and as a Graduate Engineer at MWH (now part of Stantec) in the same year.

In 2001, Janine joined the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and held various roles, including Hydrologist and Data Coordination & Reporting, until 2013. During this time, they also served as the Coordinator of the UK Water Framework Directive Technical Advisory Group on secondment from 2013 to 2015. From 2015 to 2018, they worked as the Environmental Data Coordination Unit Manager at SEPA.

Janine's most recent role is as the Head of Modelling & Evidence (Hydrology & Flooding) at SEPA, starting in July 2018. In this role, they are responsible for senior management covering flood risk mapping & modelling and water resources management. Janine focuses on providing evidence and advice to help Scotland make informed decisions regarding flood risk and improving resilience to drought, with particular emphasis on climate change impacts.

Janine Hensman has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from The University of Edinburgh. Janine also holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering Hydrology from Newcastle University.
