Russell O'Brien

Russell O'Brien has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple companies. Russell'smost recent position is as the Head of Data Operations at Sea/ by Maritech, where they have been working since November 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Clarksons as a Database Manager from August 2014 to November 2021.

Before joining Clarksons, Russell worked at Tesco.com, where they held various roles. Russell started as a SQL Server Technical Lead in June 2009 and stayed in that position until March 2012. From March 2012 to February 2013, they worked as an Oracle Team Manager, responsible for establishing and managing a new Oracle Operational Support team. From February 2013 to July 2014, they served as the Database Operations Team Manager, overseeing the service and operational support of the Tesco.com databases.

Prior to their tenure at Tesco.com, Russell worked as a SQL Server Team Manager for Ford Motor Company from May 2000 to May 2010, where they provided technical leadership for a team of 5 DBAs supporting various critical enterprise-wide operations. Russell also briefly worked as an ETL Contractor at Royal Mail Consulting in 2000, developing processes for data import and export using SQL Server.

Before that, Russell held the role of a Government Division Consultant at CMG from August 1998 to December 1999. Russell initially started their career at Ford Credit Europe as a Systems Analyst/Developer, contributing to the development of the Loans Processing System from September 1996 to July 1998.

Russell O'Brien attended The University of Salford from 1993 to 1996, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Information Technology. In addition to their degree, they obtained various certifications throughout their career. In 2006, they received the PRINCE2 Foundation certification from APM Group, followed by the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification from the same institution in 2006. In 2007, Russell obtained the Certified Information Systems Auditor certification from ISACA. In 2008, they received the TOGAF 8 Enterprise Architect certification from The Open Group. Lastly, in 2011, they obtained the ITILv3 Foundation certification from the ITIL Certification Management Board.
