Matthew Wong, M.S., CFE, CAMS has a wealth of experience in financial operations and compliance, fraud/BSA operations, AML prevention, and currency transaction/deposit maintenance. From 2013 to 2017, they worked at Bank of Hawaii, where they ensured retail banking branches adhered to Federal banking regulations, performed accurate, timely, and detailed filing of Currency Transaction Reports (CTR), and conducted AML/KYC risk assessments. From 2017 to 2019, they worked at American Savings Bank, where they conducted due diligence inquiries on individuals, firms and organizations suspected of money laundering crimes and terrorist financing crimes, analyzed/investigated accounts from Low to High Risk countries to detect any patterns, trends, and potential suspicious activity related to money laundering, frauds, terrorist financing, and other criminal activities, prepared investigative case review summaries analyzing transaction activity occurring in high and medium-risk accounts maintained by the Bank, collaborated with other transaction monitoring team members regarding suspicious activities according to firm policy, and prepared suspicious activity reports (SARs) sent to the US Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. From 2019 to 2022, they worked at Happy Money, where they developed, implemented, and improved the fraud, transaction monitoring, and anti-money laundering (AML) strategies and programs from a company valuation of $55 million in 2019 to a $1.1 billion valuation (Unicorn status) in 2022, and implemented a grass roots anti-fraud, “know your customer” KYC, program strategy supporting the EDD customer verification team mitigating money laundering risks. Currently, they are working at SecureSave, where they have built and developed the overall Compliance Management System (CMS) from scratch, including policy creation in collaboration with a third-party legal & consulting firm, and is managing all aspects of the compliance program from Reg E, BSA, UDAAP, etc.
Matthew Wong is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration in Strategic Management from University of the Cumberlands, which they expect to complete in 2024. Matthew has obtained a Master of Science in Financial Crimes and Compliance Management from Utica University, a Master of Science in Data Science from Utica University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Disaster Preparedness from University of Hawaii-West Oahu, which they obtained in 2011. In addition, they have obtained three certifications: Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI) from Utica University in May 2018, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) in 2018, and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) from ACAMS in 2018.
