Doug Burks has a diverse work experience in the field of information security. Doug is the Founder and CEO of Security Onion Solutions, LLC since 2014. Prior to that, they worked as a Lead Developer at Security Onion from 2008 onwards. From 2011 to 2014, Doug served as a Corporate Incident Handler and Deputy Chief Security Officer at Mandiant. Doug also worked as a Security Administrator at Mandiant from 2011 to 2013. In 2010, they served as the President of Greater Augusta ISSA. Doug has also been associated with SANS Institute as a Community Instructor from 2011 to 2014 and as a Mentor from 2009 to 2011. Doug Burks earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science from Augusta State University. Doug attended the university from 1995 to 2005.

Doug Burks also obtained various certifications. In 2000, they became a Red Hat Certified Engineer from Red Hat. In 2006, they obtained the CISSP certification from (ISC)². In 2008, they obtained the GCIA certification from GIAC. In 2009, they obtained the GSEC certification from GIAC. In 2010, they achieved multiple certifications including GCIH, GPEN, and GSE from GIAC. Finally, in 2011, they obtained the GCFA certification from GIAC.
