Kristian Gjerstad

Principal Numerical Modeling Engineer at Sekal AS

Kristian Gjerstad has a diverse work experience in various companies and roles. Kristian is currently working as an Associate Professor at the University of Stavanger since September 2021. Prior to this, from 2018 to 2021, they worked at Sekal AS as a Principal Numerical Modeling Engineer and also as a Principal Mathematical model developer.

From 2013 to 2018, Kristian worked at MHWirth as a Specialist Engineer, where they focused on mathematical modeling, design, and development of downhole simulation models using MATLAB and C#. Kristian'sresponsibilities included dynamic fluid modules, mechanical modeling, and interaction with flow models, with a focus on reducing complexity, cost-effective solutions, and standardized interfaces.

Before that, from 2008 to 2012, they were a Researcher and Ph.D. student at Teknova, where their work primarily focused on flow modeling and pressure control within drilling operations. Kristian also worked on energy optimization projects in offshore installations and the process industry.

Kristian's earlier work experience includes roles as a Control System Engineer at Poseidon Group from 2007 to 2008 and a Process Control Engineer at GE Healthcare from 2000 to 2007. At GE Healthcare, they participated in establishing model-based control systems, optimized control loops, and performed mathematical modeling of energy balance in chemical batch processes.

Kristian started their career at St. Olavs hospital in 1998 as a Førstekonsulent IT Utvikling, where they were involved in the development, maintenance, and premise provider for the hospital's IT system, with a focus on internet connection, IT security, and web applications.

Overall, Kristian Gjerstad has gained expertise in mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, pressure control, and energy optimization throughout their career in various industries.

Kristian Gjerstad attended the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) from 1990 to 1994. During this time, they obtained their M.Sc degree in Kybernetikk, specializing in Control theory. After a gap of several years, from 2009 to 2013, Kristian pursued further education at the University of Stavanger. Here, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Flow modeling.
