Joy Gao

Joy Gao is vice president, risk management for Sempra. In this role, Gao leads the company’s risk management, insurance, and pension and trust investments functions.

From 2013 to 2019, Gao served as director, then senior director, of risk management for Sempra. She led Sempra’s enterprise risk management strategy and processes, and stewarded the company’s extensive insurance portfolio. Since joining Sempra in 2002, Gao has served in roles of increasing responsibility in various functions for the family of companies. Prior to joining Sempra, Gao worked in finance, treasury, money management, and international trade.

Gao currently serves on the board of directors of Oil Insurance Limited and Oil Casualty Insurance, Ltd.

Gao holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Southwest University, China, a master’s degree in science from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in business administration from San Diego State University.
