Environmental Analyst at San Francisco Estuary Institute

Ila Shimabuku is an experienced environmental analyst currently working at the San Francisco Estuary Institute since July 2016, focusing on projects related to harmful algal blooms, emerging contaminants, and stormwater pollution. Prior to this role, Ila served as a water and sanitation engineer at Build Change, contributing to the design of water facilities and developing educational campaigns in Port-au-Prince. Experience also includes research at UC Berkeley, where Ila led projects on water purification technologies, winning a grant for independent research and presenting findings at a conference. Ila's early career included an internship at Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, where civil engineering skills were developed through surveying and drafting utility designs. Ila holds a Bachelor's Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
