Jim Portnoy has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Jim is currently the VP of Global Compliance at SharkNinja since April 2021. Prior to this, they founded and served as Principal at Compliance Counseling LLC from April 2014 to April 2021, where they provided advisory services on legal and compliance matters and designed and evaluated corporate compliance programs. From January 2016 to December 2017, Jim worked as the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at Herc Rentals, where they oversaw litigation, compliance, and investigations. Jim also played a key role in corporate transactions and governance. From April 2007 to March 2014, Jim held the position of Chief Counsel, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs and Compliance & Integrity at Kraft Foods Group, leading their Compliance & Integrity Group and focusing on anti-corruption laws and export controls. Prior to this, they held legal counsel positions at Altria, Covington & Burling, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the U.S. Senate. Jim began their career as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice from 1988 to 1991.
Jim Portnoy obtained their Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law from the University of Michigan Law School, where they studied from 1984 to 1987. Prior to this, they completed their Bachelor's degree in History and Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania from 1978 to 1982.
